HARRISBURG FOOD TRUCK
HARRISBURG FOOD TRUCK
Our journey first became public at Market on Chocolate in Downtown Hershey. Pictured is my father in law, Dick, who I consider my dad. He's a huge cheerleader. His help and advice was and continues to be invaluable.
During our 5 years at the Dillsburg Farmers Market we had the opportunity to grow into who we are today, with the support of so many great people, both vendors and customers, who are now friends.
We've gone mobile. This was one of the hardest decisions of our journey. While it's still early in our transition, we're moving in the right direction. We sincerely hope we can continue to count on your support.
It all started with wanting to make venison sausage. The result was a sausage with good flavor but poor texture. Deciding to try again, only this time with pork, we created a delicious sausage. It quickly became a labor of love as we shared it with friends and family.
Eventually, we started making orders for those who asked and then things really grew. As a practical matter, we couldn’t keep making sausage in the family kitchen, so we built a shop with a walk-in cooler in the garage. We were inspected and licensed by PA Ag Dept and continued to cut meat by hand and make sausage, eventually expanding to 12 different varieties.
We made our sausage on weeknights and sold it at Hershey’s Market on Chocolate. We began to look for other opportunities for longer selling seasons and chose the Dillsburg Farmers Market. Welcomed with open arms by the farmers and residents of Dillsburg, we spent the next 5 years selling our sausage and later made to order sandwiches and breakfast sandwiches, every Saturday, from May through November.
At first, it was just my father-in-law and me. We needed more hands and quickly added my daughter Leah. She was a perfect fit for working with customers while Dad and I cooked.
We consider the DFM and the residents of Dillsburg to be members of the family. They and the Northern York County Historical and Preservation Society are responsible for so much of our success. We are forever grateful to them. Building on the success of the DFM, we considered several options, leading to our current path.
After retiring in March from my full-time job, we built a food trailer, said farewell to our Dillsburg family and started to focus on serving our food at festivals, concerts, private events, businesses, and fairs. Just a daughter and a dad working together to serve the best food we can make to as many people as we can. We are happy with what we do, it's very satisfying and fulfilling. Thank you to everyone who contributed and continues to contribute to our success!
